Obverse
A rented apartment house. It was built in 1907 -1908 by
Taisya Popugaeva, a wife of local functionary. In1916
the house was sold for arrearage in Vladivostok district
court to Alexey Dydyshko, a retired staff captain and
administrator of “Churin and Co Trade House” in
Nikolsk-Ussuriysk (now Ussuriysk).In the same year,
all third floor of the building was occupied by Northern
telegraph company. In 1923, following Dydyshko emigration,
his property was nationalized and all the building
was given to Vladivostok Telegraph, which occupies
it up to now.The house was built in neocolonial
Russian style, that was characteristic for stone-made
houses at the turn of XIX-XX in the Far East of the
Russian Empire
Reverse
“Gaydamak” was a wooden screw clipper launched in
1860. It was built by Pitcher in Norfolk (UK). In 1860
she left for Far East. During her navigation she called
several Chinese ports, Novgorod Harbor and spent more
than month in the Peter the Great Bay. She was engaged
in hydrographical surveys and served like a cruiser.
The crew made a detailed description of Vostok and
Gaydamak creek in the Peter the Great Bay. A creek in
the western part of the Peter the Great Baym a cape in
Providenya Bay and a street in Vladivostok were named
after her.
