Obverse
This monument has been mounted at Naberezhnaya
str, Vladivostok. Authors - sculptor A. Tenetay
and an architect A. Usachev. Stepan O. Makarov
was an outstanding seaman, scientist and citizen
who put a considerable contribution to assimilation
of new territories. He created ice-breaker fleet and
trained many brilliant naval officers.
On April 13, 1904,Vice Admiral Makarov and the
headquarters of the First Pacific Squadron, headed
by counter-admiral Mikhail Kolas (total, 650
persons) perished with battleship Petropavlovsk
during Russo-Japanese War.
There is a wide stairway leading to the monument.
In 2010 a cast iron sculpture, dtepped stylobate and
memorial plate were restored.
The monument to Vice-Admiral Makarov was
mounted to make special mention to his services,
besides, a street in Vladivostok was named after
him. The Pacific Naval Institute was also name in
his honor. On the coin the monument is placed
against the background of this Institute.
