Duckworth ( Sir John Thomas, first Baronet, Admiral, naval officer, 1748-1817) Receipt Book Attested Copies of private Signals, General Orders Signals to be made in the Enemy's Fleet coming out", D.s. signed by several members of Duckworth's squadron that attacked Constantinople in 1807, manuscript, 8pp. excluding blanks, original limp vellum, lettered direct on upper cover, sm. 4to, 29th October 1806 - 3rd February 1807. Signatures include: Captains Richard Dacres (Royal George), Henry Blackwood (Ajax, blew up in the Dardanelles), Charles Boyles (Windsor Castle), A.K. Legge (Repulse), James Collins (Meteor), R.H. Moubray (Active), Elliot (Lucifer). Receipts of attested copies from Duckworth of various orders, including: private signals for Sicillians and the British Mediterranean Station, an order relating to Prussians, a memorandum on training seamen in the exercise of small arms, orders to put themselves under Duckworth's command etc. In 1807 Duckworth was commanded by the Admiralty to sail to Constantinople in support of the British Ambassador Charles Arbuthnot in his negotiations with the Ottoman Empire. Duckworth forced the Dardanelles with great difficulty and when Arbuthnot fell ill withdrew, sustaining significant damage to several of his ships.
