EP-118, HB-153, S-109, Reed IH10. Ten Cents. IRVING HOUSE, Hunt & Nash. New York. Plain Frame Type. Choice Extremely Fine.
Rated as Hi Rarity-8+ (About 5 known) according to Fred Reed. This important rarity and major listed type is quite possibly the Finest Known. This is the June 2004, Stack’s John J. Ford, Jr. Collection Sale, Lot 523, graded About Uncirculated, selling (a decade ago) at $2,185. The deep green George Washington stamp is perfectly centered, having some trivial slight tone. It is viewed under very clear, unbroken mica. The case is light natural golden-chestnut in color and remains defect-free. The sharp legends at center highlighted by nice underlying luster. A superb example, certainly among the Finest Known of this important and well pedigreed Encased Postage Stamp rarity. Ex: John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, June 23, 2004, Lot 523.
