November 29, 1861-Dated Civil War Period, Union Soldier's Autograph Letter, Boston (MA), Choice Very Fine.
This single sheet letter, 7.5" x 4.5", written on front and back, was penned by Benjamin Underwood to Captain Daniel Marston of the Maine 16th Volunteers, from Boston on November 29th, 1861. It is responding to letter he had just received from Marston notifying him of the death of a soldier named Newman, who Underwood refers to as his best friend and brother! He informs him that he has notified the others.
