c. 1870s, Carte de Visite Photograph Montage, Fifty (50) Theatre Stage Ladies, Including John Wilkes Booth “Girlfriends” and Edwin Booth Co-Stars, Choice Extremely Fine.
This is an exceedingly rare, highly desirable Theatre Actress Montage CDV by "E.B. Fay, 100 Nassau St.” N.Y., measuring 4” x 2.5” and printed in violet on its reverse. This extraordinary period CDV shows “Real-Photo” Portraits of the Fifty (50) Leading Actresses of Stage in the latter half of the 19th Century. Included are Laura Keene, the woman who cradled the fallen President after his being shot and Assassinated during the Ford’s Theater performance of the Play “Our American Cousin” by John Wilkes Booth, plus Effie Germon, a Carte Photograph of her was found in John Wilkes Booth’s wallet after he was killed by Union Soldiers! Also, Little Nell, Kate Bateman, Fanny Davenport, Margaret Mitchell, and MANY others. The printed back side lists the names of the photo’ed Leading Ladies. The first we have seen and Extremely Rare.
