Abraham Lincoln Woven Silk Portrait “THREADS No 406”
c. 1876 Woven Silk Portrait of Abraham Lincoln, by Carquillat and Allardet, French, Listed in “THREADS OF HISTORY” Number 406, Choice Very Fine.
This original Woven Silk Portrait of Abraham Lincoln, measures a large 9.25” x 7” being made of golden-brown thread upon a light golden-tan Silk field. Whole and solid with a clean, somber yet impressive central design, having some minor soiling and a couple of spots at the lower right outer margin. A large central Portrait image of Abe Lincoln with a spread wings Heraldic American Eagle with shield and wreath of sprigs below. This large handsome Lincoln Silk Memorial likely produced made for the 1876 American Centennial. This type illustrated in the Smithsonian’s reference book “THREADS OF HISTORY” Number 406, page 196.
