Description
Madonna with Baby Jesus, 60x50cm, oil on board
The Flemish painter Isenbrandt became the leading figure of a group of painters living in Bruges around 1510. Thanks to an old source, we now understand that he was a student of Gerard David and in fact many of his works were mistakenly credited to his master. Certain elements of his works hint at Hans Memling. The painting was completed with great attention and refinement. The Virgin has a particularly delicate face whilst the child appears to console and comfort her about the future that awaits her. The caresses and glances between both subjects reveal a calm tenderness.
