Description
Antique pair of large sterling silver spice shakers, one marked Red Pepper, the other marked Black Pepper, made in Colonial India c. 1840. The pieces have pierced, twist off tops that stay closed securely and are finely chased around the bodies and pedestals with floral borders in a Far East motif. Approximate Size: almost 5 1/2" H x 2 5/8" W measured at side at widest point. Approximate Weight: 8 troy oz. measured together. Monogram: One has a very light curvy script monogram, the other appears to have a monogram removed leaving a circular mark. Hallmark: Both marked B.G. on bottoms.
Condition
Overall very good antique condition with normal minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and usage. The piece engraved "Red Pepper" looks like it had its monogram removed, leaving behind a mark in the shape of an uneven circle (last photo).
