China, Rare Northern Qi Dynasty warrior, c. 550 – 577 AD. wonderfully executed in polychrome pottery with nice expressive facial features and detail depicting a real life army soldier. Soldier holds a rectangular shaped shield flat up against his mid-section with his left hand. These effigies were entombed as part of funeral furnishings. It measures approximately 9.75". Red and gray earth tones on creme colored pottery. This effigy has some wonderful surface deposits and abrasions consistent with its age. A highly sought after piece from this rare and short lived Chinese Dynasty.
