Tsarina Maria Feodorovna writes to Princess Maria Antonovna Naryshkin (1779-1854), the favorite of her son Emperor Alexander I with whome she exchanges ‘des nouvelles bien fraiches’. In addition to court new she mentions the victory of the allies over Napoleon's armies in the battle of Leipzig (October 16 to 19).



‘… Vous me félicitez certainement pareillement, de nos glorieux et superbes succès et de voir notre Empereur et mon Alexandre, respecté, chéri et aprécié comme il l’Est: avouéz chere Madame de Narischkin que je suis la plus heureuse des mère de voir enfin les peine les sollicitude de mon fils récompensé, et de l’Entendre nommer le Libérateur de l’humanité souffrante!...’

Tsarina Maria Feodorovna (1759-1828)

Tsarina Maria Feodorovna was born as Princess Sophia Dorothea of Württemberg in 1759. She was the second wife of the Russian Tsar Paul I and mother in law of Empress Elisabeta Alexeyevna, born Luise Marie Auguste Princess of Baden. Her two sons Alexander I and Nicholas I also became emperor.
