Carl Philipp Gottlieb von Clausewitz (1780-1831)
Von Clausewitz was appointed chief of staff in the Polish Prussian Obervationscorps under Gneisenau in July 1830. The Russian troops brought cholera to Poland. When Gneisenau died, Clausewitz took over the command of the Prussian troops, but fell sick with cholera as well and cured himself in Berlin. During this time this letter was written. Von Clausewitz returned to Breslau in the autumn of 1831, where he died eventually on 16 November 1831.
