This charming little drawing of a blessing monk standing on a tun was made in October 1844. As the original printed note on the back side tells, the later German Emperor and Prussian King, at this time crown prince Frederic stayed at Babelsberg together with his mother Augusta where he was portrayed by the painter Friedrich Randel. In a break Randel made a drawing of a horse for him which led to this drawing of a monk in return. The gilt edged sheet was taken from the album of the crown prince Frederic in which he kept Randel’s horse drawing.



The drawing is dated and signed with pencil ‘d. 17 October 1844 Friedrich Wilhelm’ and has an inscription. The sheet measures 19.3 x 11.7 cm. The overall dimensions of the framed piece are 31.5 x 24 cm. The drawing is in fine condition with some sign of age and creasing marks.



In addition, there is a little romantic drawing by Wilhelmine Luise of Anhalt-Bernburg (1792-1888). It is monogramed and dated ‘W.L. 1847’. The total dimensions of the framed drawing are 25.3 x 21 cm. It is in good condition with some foxing and partly browned.
