Markus Lüpertz (b. 1941)
Markus Lüpertz started to train as a painter as well as a graphic designer, however, he never finished either course. He then studied at the Werkkunstschule in Krefeld. A study course at the cloister Maria Laach followed. He visited the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf until he was exmatriculated after the first semester. After a productive period in Berlin, he worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe and at the summer academy in Salzburg. From 1988 until 2009 he was rector at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He took part at the Documenta VII in Kassel. His works are in the possession of the collections of important international art museums, like the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Harvard University Art Museums and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.
