Claimed to be former property of William B. Pollack - a figure of much importance to the history of Pittsfield, Mass. Mr. Pollack was a wealthy industrialist who financed the formation of a brigade of union soldiers known as "Pollack's Guard. Co. D 10th regiment." He built a large estate called Gray Tower in 1864-65 from which came this desk. Pollack died in 1866. On the bottom of one of the small desk drawers, there is pencil script relating to the desk's resale on November 7, 1900. Sold to a fellow named Henry B. Avery.
