American watercolor portrait of Samuel Wilkeson (1781-1848), Wilkeson was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and become Mayor of Buffalo, New York and also served as state Senator, 2 1/2'' x 2'', together with a gold and pearl memorial brooch with a braid of hair, the reverse inscribed Sam.
Condition
Line in face of gentleman (does not go into sitter's eye, could be water damage but appears to just be surface dirt). Spots near chin and coat collar also appear to be surface dirt or paper fibers. The gold inner rim of the frame is part of the frame. Overall good condition. Provenance: The Collection of Naoma Mary Gulick, Santa Rosa, CA.
