Description
An Egyptian bone clapper (small musical instrument), c. 2055-1650 BC, in the form of a forearm and hand, H: 6 7/8 in (17.5cm). The handle that would have been attached is lost and there is some repair to the wrist. In antiquity, this clapper would have been part of a matching pair, which would have been connected by a handle. This instrument would have then been played by rattling the two hands together, and played along with other instruments like harps and pipes. The intention of the Egyptian clappers form was to represent and extension of the human body, and sound like hands clapping. Ex collection of Jim Akers; Cf. Petrie, Objects of Everyday Use, Plate 35, #20.
