Description
A large Greek bronze Oinochoe, c. mid-6th Century BC, the vessel formed of hammered sheet bronze, the foot flat and ringed with rivets, the body ovoid with short tapering neck and trefoil mouth, the separately-cast handle with rotellae at the join to the rim and attached to the vessel with rivets. H: 8 1/2 in (21.6 cm). Intact with green patination and areas of thick encrustation. An excellent example of ancient Greek metalworking. Cf. Sotheby’s, New York, 31 May 1997, lot 88 for a nearly identical example; Ex New York City private collection.
