A choice bronze sword handle with human bust, Luristan, c. 1000 - 800 BC, solid and quite substantial, the grip decorated with a pair of ridges above a stylized human bust wearing a fringed headdress and two beaded collars. The eyes are large and circular with prominent nose large, a heavy brow continues around the entire head and separates the face from the headdress, the shoulders taper toward the oval base. The pommel is crescent-shaped with central depression and a large knob (one missing) on each lobe. H: 4 7/8 in (12.3 cm). Well-preserved with deep olive patina beneath earthen deposits and remains of the iron blade. Ex J. L. Malter collection; Ex Los Angeles private collection.
