An Old Babylonian terracotta votive plaque depicting the bust of a warrior god or possibly a deified king, c. 1850 - 1600 BC. He is depicted in a chariot drawn by a central servant with lions to either side. The god wears a turban and mantle over his left shoulder, the other bare, and is flanked on either side by crescent shaped bladed weapons. It is thought that hands the holding the reigns are that of the chariot driver, not the god. The raised circles above and the below the servant and lion group represent the nails in the wooden chariot. H: 5 ¾ in x 5 5/8 in (14.6 x 9 cm). Intact with nice style and detail, light earthen and crystalline deposits. Mounted on a custom metal stand. Ex Royal Athena Galleries, New York; Private English Collection; Cf. D.
