Description
An attractive Etruscan Bucchero Kyathos, c. 560 - 540 BC, with tall handle and flared ring foot, the bowl with steep walls with an incised line just below the outside of the rim. On the top of the handle is nipple, with raised decoration in the form of a ridge with central oval device on either side. At the base of the handle is a female head, the hair accentuated with incised lines. H: 5 3/8 in (13.6 cm). Some repair to foot and some restoration to the handle. A very attractive piece! Cf. Perkins, Etruscan Bucchero in the British Museum (2007), p. 54, no. 209 for a very similar example; Ex J.M.E.
