Description
A Bambara (Bamana) anthropomorphic Kore Mask from Mali, with elongated 'animal' face with three horns atop the head. Lovely patina, glossy and crusty in areas, the back showing a good deal of wear and age. L: 19 in (48 cm). The Kore society is one that protects youths in the group until they are old enough for circumcision so that they may then join the adult societies. Ex collection of Phil Orlando (1932-92) and Robert Gino, founders of the Orlando Gallery, a S.F. Valley fixture for nearly 60 years!
