Ivory and Wood Table Screen, China, late 18th century, a four-panel wood screen containing sixteen small ivory panels, each ivory panel with high relief carving of stories from Fengshen Yanyi (The Investiture of the Gods), which is a romanticized retelling of the overthrow of King Zhou, the last ruler of the Shang Dynasty, by King Wu, who would establish the Zhou Dynasty in place of Shang; many Chinese mythological figures, including human heroes, Immortals, and various spirits who are involved in the struggle are depicted on the ivory panels, the wood frame possibly made later, 46 x 37 in.
