A rare laminated Union Jack red, white and blue Bakelite brooch
Specially commissioned by Lord & Taylor to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, inset in a wood frame, 2 1/8" x 1", Ref.: Corrine Davidof and Ginny Redington Dawes, The Bakelite Book, Abbeville Press, 1988, p. 79
From the Rodrigo J. Mouré Estate, of Bowling Green, VA. Mr. Mouré, a pioneer in the plastic jewelry industry in the 1930s, opened the Manhattan Bakelite company, Alta Novelty, with his brother Robert, in 1936. Alta Novelty supplied jewelry to numerous exclusive department stores on Fifth Avenue, as well as stores in Boston, Los Angeles, and Neiman Marcus in Texas.
