Description
Benny Goodman Owned and Played Clarinet. It's difficult to imagine the Swing Era without Benny Goodman - after all, he was nicknamed The King of Swing. Curiously, the title initially was bestowed on Goodman's legendary drummer, Gene Krupa, but as the leader of the most successful and influential band at the start of the Big Band Era, Goodman was entitled to the regal title. Goodman gave this well-traveled Selmer and case to his longtime business manager, Muriel Zuckerman, who later gave it to her favorite cousin, Judy Landwehr. Included with the clarinet are photos of Goodman at rehearsal circa mid-1950s (with Zuckerman looking on) and of Goodman with Zuckerman and an unidentified man enjoying Oktoberfest in 1959 in Germany, and two telegrams dated 1959 and 1962. LOA from Sherman Landwehr.
