Description
Al Furstnow worked for Ernest Goettlich in Miles City, Montana in 1884. Later that same year Furstnow opened his own saddle shop and Charles Coggshell became a partner in 1890. In 1895 the partnership split and the saddleshop their saddle shops sat side by side in Miles City. Al Furstnow became one of the premiere saddle makers in Montana. His saddle were so well known, that cowboys of the peried would referred to their rig as their“Furstnow.” Miles City was a terminal for the free open range and cowboys from the Texas and Oregon cattle drives. Al Furstnow died in 1923. Furstnow saddles are now one of the most desirable collector saddles.This saddle was created in 1915 and shows a wide swell. The piece shows floral designed hand tooling with a good condition. The back skirt shows some drying, but this is a rarepiece of saddle and Montana history. The saddle has a 14" seat.
