Description
This is an original vintage WWII British aircrew survival whistle issued by the Air Ministry (A.M.)/RAF.
Marked with the King's crown and A.M. 23/230 to one side and 293/14/L1795 to the other.
An RAF "Ditching" Whistle was a vital tool that was issued to aircrew in WWII and often attached to the battle dress collar or to the Mae West life jacket to be used for attracting attention in a crash situation. Although officially an RAF item, these whistles were widely used by USAAF crews, the favorite place for attaching the whistle being the RH under collar throat hook of an A-2 flight jacket.
This is an estate find and, curiously, there is what I believe to be a monocle attached with a black cord - 1 3/8" wide with some light surface wear.
SIZE: Approx. 2" long (50mm) x 3/4" wide.
