Description
A fantastic Roman marble fountain feature depicting the river god Tiberinus reclining and holding a cornucopia in his left hand, L: about 30 in (76.2cm), H: about 15 in (38.1cm). Water would have flowed out of what is likely the mouth of a dolphin next to the left arm of Tiberinus, below the cornucopia. Tiberinus was the genius of the Tiber river and known in mythology as the god who found Romulus and Remus and delivered them safely to Lupa. Ex German private collection, collected in the 1960's.
