Richly decorated snuff-box from a noble collection
This cigarette case made of 84 silver (875/1000) has a noble provenance. It is richly decorated on one side with autographs and monograms and notes of gold and enamel. The other side shows eleven enameled ‘szlachta’ coat of arms of Polish, Baltic and Russian nobility. The Polish coat of arms ‘Ogo?czyk’ can be found in the center. The szlachta was a privileged noble class with origins in the Kingdom of Poland. Coats of arms were very important to the Polish nobility, sometimes over 500 families share a coat of arms.
