Continental Hobby is pleased to offer this VERY RARE early antique 1889 Globe Democrat Advertising Clockwork Cast Iron Cigar Cutter. Professionally restored by Classic Tin Toy Co. Unique windup mechanism is in full original working order. Amazing and incredible early counter top advertising piece for the Globe-Democrat label, manufactured for the St. Louis, Missouri market by the prolific Fendrich Cigar Company of Evansville, Indiana which boasted the world's largest cigar factory. Cigar is pressed into opening and end is sliced by one of two blades attached to the flywheel which rotates swiftly. Slanted top with stampings reads "Ask for globe-Democrat Cigar, Best of All, H. Fendrich, Evansville, Ind." Fully marked bottom with stampings reads "No. 77, Erie Specialty Co., Erie, PA Pat. Feb. 19, 1889." Measures 8" x 5-3/4" and just over 4" tall. Top plate looks like it may have had a casting flaw but not sure (see picture). Has been totally heavy nickel plated and the original lettering hand painted. The cutter is in perfect working order. Very nice clean mechanism. An unusual vintage piece that is sure to be a conversation piece in your collection.
