Meissen model of Empress Catherine II favorite dog naturalistically modeled in shades of burnt umber and sienna the figure wearing a gilt collar with expressive eyes, recumbent upon a pillow with gold brocade border and decorated with painted flowers and tasseled at the four corners. Crossed swords mark in blue under glaze, incised, "B.12.. 36 1." and remnants of black title inscription that should read, "Chien favorit de feu S.M. I'mperatrice Catherine de Russie". Provenance: The Estate of Mrs. W. A. Criswell, Dallas, Texas. 16.375"L, Circa - Second half 19th C.
