2 PERIOD NEW YORK FEDERAL LYRE BACK CHAIRS c.1810; formerly property of the Detroit Institute of the Arts, sold through Sotheby's 2001. Excellent quality mahogany pair, with acanthus leaf carved lyres, columned sides, the seat fitted with removable seat cushion and on back molded sabre legs with front legs terminating in animal paw feet, 84 cm high (33h ), 17" seat depth. Each bears the Museum Accession Number: 27.571A & 40.144; Condition: refinished and evidence of old repairs.
