Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797-1858). No. 10 Odawara from "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido Road". Oban. Polychrome woodblock print; ink on paper. Sheet: 10.25" x 15.25" (26 x 39 cm). Old, probably early 20th C.; excellent color and condition.
no. 10 Odawara: A daimyo's cortège being carried across the River Sakawa; the background a mass of high, jagged hills, the most distant printed from colour-blocks only. This station flourished in its position at the entrance to Hakone pass, the most arduous part of the highway. Hiroshige.org
