Very Rare Julius Vom Hofe Perforated Special Lightweight Nickel Plated Fly Reel. This ultra rare special reel is 2 1/4" in diameter and has a 5/8" wide spool. Each thin side plate features nineteen 7/32 inch circumferential holes and has a compensating rear bearing cap. The near impossible to find box is correctly marked "Special Light Weight Nickel Plated Single Action Reel" and "No. 133 1/2 Special, 80 Yds". This patented "Oct. 8, '89" reel is by far the rarest of all Julius Vom Hofe reels, with perhaps one of these known for every four German Silver and hard rubber perforated Julius fly reels, which can also be considered rare. When you factor in the pristine condition of this example, in addition to the correct box, it makes for an outstanding opportunity to add a centerpiece to the most advanced collection, or foundation to start one.
