Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône/France
Original filling quantity: 0.75 l

Robert Parker (2003): 99/100
Wine Spectator (2002): 92/100

This lot comprises six bottles of 2000 vintage Château de Beaucastel Vieilles Vignes from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Rhône wine region. This dry white wine was made entirely from Rousanne grapes.

The fame of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation on the southern part of the Rhône dates back to the former papal residence. Today, papal insignia such as the tiara and the Keys of Heaven can still be found on the bottles. The vines grow on pebble scree, galets, which accelerate grape maturity in the hot climate to produce full-bodied, opulent wines. It’s typical for red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape to be made from a variety of accepted grape varieties, however the most important is Grenache, the soul of these wines.

2000 was a promising vintage in the Rhône valley, the high expectations were even succeeded in the South and especially in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, even if the wines are not as long-lasting as usual. This wine will be a great pleasure to drink now, but should not be stored for a longer period of time.

The 2000 vintage Beaucastel Vieilles Vignes was rated 99 points by Robert Parker in 2003. It was rated 92 points in Wine Spectator magazine in 2002.

The fill levels are good (< 4 cm). Some labels ae very slightly soiled. The capsules are in perfect condition.

Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel is a prominent wine estate in the north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône valley. The estate is managed by the fourth generation of the Perrin family and the current owners are the brothers François and Jean Perrin. Their father, Jacques Perrin, established the principles which the still guide the estate today: the wines are produced with natural techniques, consist mostly of Mourvèdre grape type, whose natural properties may not be adulterated by the use of modern technology. This has led to the Perrin family being one of the eleven members of Primum Familiae Vini (“Top wine families“), an incredibly exclusive union of international family owned elite wine estates.

Château de Beaucastel has a vineyard area of 100 hectares, three quarters of which are located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the remainder in the appellation Côtes-du-Rhône. It is one of the few wine estates that grows all 13 permitted grape varieties, which are separately vinificated and later made into a blend.
