First Edition of A Trip to Pike's Peak by Charles Clark, M.D., Chicago: S.P. Rounds' Steam Book and Job Printing House, 1861. Large 12mo, half-leather with marbeled boards framed in gilt. Raised bands, gilt design and lettering on the spine, marbled endpapers and pastedowns. With frontispiece illustration, several illustrated plates interspersed in text and errata page. A wonderful account of Clark's gold mining expedition into Colorado (Howe C-430: exceedingly rare, first book printed in Chicago on Pike's Peak region).
Ex lib stamp on pastedown, penciled references to book on endpapers, smaller ex lib mark on back pastedown, scuff on front endpaper, slight corner bumping, minor scattered foxing, overall VG.
