The four ladles, three with bright-cut decoration to bowls, two with gilt bowls; one ladle monogrammed M to terminal verso, one inscribed WH TO PHG to terminal verso.
Accompanying this lot is a limited edition boxed catalogue portfolio of the 1999 Lauren Stanley Gallery exhibition: American Soup Ladles 1800-1900. The black presentation box holds the scholarly catalogue written by D. Albert Soeffing which discusses the history of the form and its makers in great depth, as well as including 8 "x 10" photographs of the 38 ladles in the exhibition.
