Description
Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company Cromwell, Connecticut – Circa The Germania Exchange Bank is composed of tin, iron and lead elements. This unusual feature suggests the handiwork of top bank designer Charles Bailey. His long-standing affiliation with the Stevens Factory would suggest that they manufactured the bank. The arcane imagery of a goat clutching a beer stein with his hoof standing atop a keg of beer is both puzzling and humorous. However, German beer producers often used the goat as a mascot in the marketing campaign of their beverages. In any case, the Germania Exchange has long been valued as one of the rarest and most engagingly dynamic banks ever produced. Material: Cast Iron, Lead and Tin Provenance: Robert Brady Collection
