RARE TALL CASE AUTOMATON ORGAN CLOCK

The top of the works bear the names Robert and Klaerchen and has handpainted courting scene which is undoubtedly dedicated to the romance of a young couple. Porcelain dial with painted figures in each corner of the tableau representing the four seasons. The top level has four figures each holding a musical instrument, turning to right and to left at the sound of the flute. 5" diameter wooden organ roll and 57 organ pipes, each of a different size. The melodies are heard on the hour. The side door to the works has list of ten songs and the name "Andreas Muller in Neukirch", lies in the middle of the Black Forest. There are several clock makers with this name. Andreas Muller is mentioned in the 17th century in Neukirch, this was perhaps a direct descendent. Cherry and walnut American case. This particular clock is pictured on Page 131 of the book Les Automates by Alfred Chapuis and Edmond Droz. From an Ohio estate, who had purchased it in 1982 from Charles Ross, a Tampa, Florida attorney. Pendulum and weights (one weight old replacement) included. Book and documentation accompany the clock. The bellows have been retaped and need to be reconditioned. Working order but will need to be cleaned and adjusted. 99" h x 22 1/2" w x 18" d. EST. $8000. - $12000.
