Arc du Carrousel, Paris. Before 1871. Albumen print. 25 x 33 cm. Photographer's signature E. Baldus in lower left corner in the negative, flush-mounted to board (some soiling and foxing), titled in ink on mount verso. This rare view shows the Tuileries wing of the Royal Palace with two horse guards and their tents on either side of the arch. The wing was destroyed by fire in 1871. - Two small retouched surface abrasions and slightly faded in edges, a few light foxing spots, otherwise in good condition. - With: 4 large-format albumen prints, 1870s, each circa 35 x 26 cm, flush-mounted to board (edges soiled and time-stained). The views show S.Marco in Venice (2), the court of the hospital in Milano and the Alhambra in Granada (the inner court with lion fountain). The last print has Carlo Ponti's (!) blind stamp although Ponti did not work in Spain. This is a good example of photographers working together by exchanging their negatives of different cities to have a more complete stock in their archive.
