Together with William Barker, the Irishman John Burke documented the Second Afghan War between 1878 - 1880. The team worked under extreme conditions, carrying fragile wet-plates and mixing chemicals at high altitudes and extreme temperatures. A rare document of a country still in turmoil today. - Slight fading, especially in middle edges, small spot marks in the negatives, otherwise in good condition. Lit.: Pat Hodgson.
