Author: Robert W. Chambers
Publisher: F. Tennyson Neely
Printing Year: 1895
Condition/Details: Bound in its original block cloth boards with yellow, red and silver gilt embossing, this antique literary work is credited by some as being the first true horror writing. H. P. Lovecraft read The King in Yellow in early 1927 and was so enchanted by it that he included references to various things and places from the book — such as the Lake of Hali and the Yellow Sign — in "The Whisperer in Darkness" (1931), one of his seminal Cthulhu Mythos stories. Lovecraft borrowed Chambers' method of only vaguely referring to supernatural events, entities, and places, thereby allowing his readers to imagine the horror for themselves. The volume shows some external age/wear concentrated at the extremities, and is solidly bound with lightly toned pages. The book measures approximately 4.25" x 6.5" and contains 316 pages, followed by a 4-page publisher's catalog. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
