Condition/Details: Bound in its original or period calfskin boards with raised bands and later gilt spine label, this large antique volume compiles these important writings, "consisting of those which were formerly printed: and those which be design'd for the press, now published out of the author's original copies. To this edition are added several commendatory copies of verses on the author, by persons of honour. As also a table to the whole works, never before printed." Cowley (1618-1667) was an English poet and throughout their parallel lives, the fame of Cowley completely eclipsed that of Milton. Each piece in the book contains its own individual pagination and in most cases, title page. The original engraved frontispiece is present and there are numerous other devices and designs throughout. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with bright pages. The book measures approximately xxx" x xxx" and contains xxx pages.
