Description

Michael Jackson's "Bad" Tour lasted 16 months, from September 12, 1987 to January 4, 1989; its success was phenomenal and record-breaking. This was his first solo tour, and the world was ready and waiting. It launched in Yokohama, Japan with fourteen sold-out stadium shows, then made its way to the US and Europe. The tour made the Guinness Book of World Records when 504,000 people attended seven shows at London's Wembley Stadium. All told, the 123 concerts were attended by 4.4 million people and grossed $125 million dollars, not too shabby for Michael's initial tour venture.

The fashion look that Michael Jackson popularized during this era, replete with leather, buckles and tears, rippled throughout the celebrity fashion world. Singers such as Diana Ross began to adopt a Michael Jackson look and the androgyny started by acts such as Boy George and Chrissie Hynde in the early 80s took firm hold throughout the pop world by the late 80s. This brown leather belt, similar to the one featured on the Bad album cover, was worn on stage by Michael Jackson during the "Bad" Tour. At the belt hole end, its style is akin to a horse rein construction, with a set of two straps joined by rivets and metal rings to a series of diamond-cut leather pieces, studded throughout by rhinestones and metal stars. Length: 101. This lot also contains a copy of the Bad album as shown in photo.
