Daniel Garber Painting The Quarryman's House Titled "The Quarryman's House". SLL Daniel Garber; signed and titled on reverse. Dated 1953. Exquisite in its simplicity, Garber's depiction of a double-chimneyed, circa-1800 Pennsylvania farmhouse, with rough-hewn fenceposts and wild-grass terrain, is executed in earth tones of yellow and red. Garber (1880-1958) was a member of the New Hope, Pa., artists colony and is known for his Impressionist landscapes of the area. He also taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where he, himself, learned to paint. Garber exhibited his works throughout the United States and won many awards and honors. In 1913 he was elected a member of the National Academy of Design. Garber died of injuries from an accidental fall from a ladder in his studio. His artworks are considered among the finest ever to come from the New Hope art colony, and his paintings are owned by a number of major institutions, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The Quarryman's House is complemented by a Ben Badura 3-1/4" sgraffito and punch-decorated gilt frame. O/C. 20" x 18". (Excellent).
