OIL ON CANVAS BY "D. BROKAW". Double portrait of a mother and child signed on the back "D. Brokaw". David Brokaw, born ca. 1812 in Evansburg, Pennsylvania, moved to Oberlin, Ohio, in 1830 where he served as mayor from 1856-1857. He left Ohio in 1863. The woman wears a black dress with a lace shawl and cameo brooch. The baby has a salmon dress and coral bead necklace. Professionally restored in 1992 (information included with painting). 28"h. 25"w. Later black and gold frame. 29 1/2"h. 26 1/2"w.
