Dashing English captain, identified, tinted ambroty

½ plate AMBROTYPE in original passe-partout mat and painted gilt wood frame. The ambrotype is in its original blue paper seal that covers the entire back. Affixed is a later label that identifies the subject as "Captain P. H. Franklin/ Brougham/ Clifton Road/ Winchester/ England." A pencil note above says "Photograph of my uncle William as a young officer." No. "54" is seen in reverse on his hat on the table. Brilliant rich image with nice gilding and tinting. [4]
