The man at right appears in other CDV's as a former slave with shackles. The children are also depicted as "redeemed" ex-slaves in a series of CDV's. Ironically, "Learning" has been mis-spelled. Photograph by Chas. Paxton NY is published by S. Tackaberry, copyright 1864, sold to benefit "the education of Colored People in the Department of the Gulf now under the command of Major General Banks." 2 Cent blue proprietary stamp on verso. [3]
