Chief Moses Colville Reservation, by E. H. Latham

.4 5/8" x 3 ¾" gelatin silver print by E. H. Latham, pen caption on verso in his hand: "Chief Moses – of the Columbia Tribe." The Colville Reservation was bordered on two sides by the Columbia River; that led the whites to call the indigenous Sinkiuse "Columbias.." Moses died in 1899; this portrait ca. 1897. There were several tribes on the Colville reservation along with the Nez Perce [3] See Lot 131 for the background..
