"Chief Joe Moses," by E.H. Latham

7 ¾" x 5 5/8" matte gelatin silver print by E. H. Latham, pen caption on verso in his hand. He had identified the subject as "Charly Wilpokin, Nez Perce." Moses was not Nez Perce, but Sinkiuse, the nephew of Chief Moses, whom he succeeded. He also appears in Lot 144. He has a long headdress of eagle feathers. Other feathers at the end of long, silk ribbons would spin behind as he rode his horse. See Lot 131 for background. [3+]
